Love it =) Perhaps if you "terraform" the stars it could have serious repercussions as well? So, for instance, if you detonate a normal star you can wipe out several planets/a whole system. Would give some seriously cool late-game tactics smiley: stickouttongue Instead of capturing your system, I'll just wipe out all life on it, and change the star type in the process smiley: wink

Speaking of proto-stars, we need nebulae. Proto-stars are found in stellar nurseries, their are also dark nebula(haven't started to birth stars yet), planetary nebular (caused by stellar decay over a long period of time), and supernova remnants that speak for themselves. One of the best parts of the Star Trek: Armada RTS games was the various nebulae that had a huge effect on how battles played out. To actually see nebulae get used in a full on $x title would be awsome especial since it work cause the death of stars to play a massive role in a long running game.

At least Armada 2526 Supernova has some neat dark nebulae on the galaxy map, that actually slows movement and stuff smiley: smile

That was sort of a disappointment for me. I've been waiting a long time for a 4X game to do this.

When I first started playing last night and saw that you guys had bothered to include real types of stars. I based my initial choices of stars to visit on the idea that Red Giants would likely have lots of planets while white dwarfs would have few planets .... but maybe mineral rich???

I don't know what algorithm you use to decide how planet numbers and wealth are distributed, but it might be fun to develop different algorithms for each type of star. Depending on your game design that may be easy or hard, but it would certainly reflect likely reality while introducing an added level of strategic planning into the game play. It might also be perceived as a big plus by that portion of your gamers who are astronomically astute.

If fairly easy to implement, then you guys definitely ought to consider this concept.

I love the idea of stars being more than just a useless image and I completely love the concept of crushing a star into a black hole to optimize a system!

I do think that having start types generate system-wide modifiers in the +5% to +10% zone would be a fantastic addition. But even without needless squabbles over realism I don't think changing the type of star would add much more to the game and seems rather over the top. Now adding nebulae and other navigational/regional effects - yes please.

Good thinking there. The matter of any bonuses positive/negative shouldnt ofcourse apply to the native players as they grow up there and was entering space there. So it should be normal for them, I think any way.
