Looks great in my opinion, it's about time Civ had some competition. The only part that worries me is the combat system. Judging by the way they described it, it seems to be similar to EL and combat really wasn't the strongest part of the game, it was probably the worst. Maybe this time we'll get to actually order units around without the pre-turn order in advance thing?

Ok, I'm quite happy for Amplitude.

Endless universe was started to limit their creative ideas. It's good for them to pour their 4x ideas on a more mainstream fashion. I'll say more in time but my initial reaction is this.

I dont know man, I always thought it potentially enables them to go wide and connect it all anyway. Many sub genres in strategy. I have a wet dream about a Company of Heroes esque game in the Endless Universe. Like a ground battle but played out in company of heroes style. That set in the Endless universe, and I would wither away in a dark room playing nothing else doing nothing else. Though I love 4x games too, especially the ones made by amplitude. No doubt great news.

Looks live Civ 6 done right! Or maybe THE game that Civ 7 will have to compete with when it launches.

And yes, I also wished / expected that the next game from Amplitude would stay in the Endless universe... but let's give it a chance.

They've said it themselves that this was a game they dreamed of making when the studio was founded, AKA before Sega got involved.

That is PR talk.

Lol, you guys are being ridiculous. This isn't Sega's choice. It's clearly Amplitude's. They make the games that they want to.

And it's been too long since Civilization had a proper competitor. Trust me. You'll want to see this.

Honestly I couldn't care less whose choice it was so long as Amplitude makes a good Civilization game and I fully believe they can. The trailer was cool and I don't see anything to complain about in the screenshots.

I like the details on the map, people walking in cities, animals roaming the unsettled lands, reminds me of good old Knights of Honor...

Besides the catch phrase that launch this thread, I really don't know how to feell about this game.

On the one hand, I am a huge fan of amplitude and their games and I will probably buy humankind day 1 because i am stupid. But on the other hand, this game really feel like the bastard child between Civ and EL and i really dunno if this is a good thing. Because why would you play humankind when you can play EL or Civ? I am really afraid that it will be compared to both of those games constantly (and it is already the case i think).

But we don't even have some gameplay yet, so this is pure speculation and I really want to be wrong. Only time will tell us I guess...

They wanted to clone Civ?

I dunno. Judging from initial impressions from people, Amplitude might not only gain new players, but also to lose existing. So many say they aren't interested and will pass this game.

The trailer seems to make it obvious, sounds exactly like his work.

After burning out on Civ this is just what I wanted. Firaxis have had the entire run of human history by themselves for a long time now.

IMO, it depends what you are looking for in Amplitude's games : lore or mechanics. I love them two, but a bit more the mechanics, because it is very elegant somehow, and refreshing in the 4x genre. It was easy to introduce them in fantasy lores. So the good question (for me) would be : can they renew the genre mechanics as easily as they've done in the past, with a more traditional genre.

I really don't know. But I hope for it, from all my heart !

I think a lot of Civ players will get it.  Whether they will stay with it longterm is another thing.  Fraxis do need some serious competition.
