With one month to go... any other demo or game settings to be revealed?

I've been pretty patient about posting this as I wanted to give as much time as I could before I could claim we won't be able to test this to be sure or not. I am personally worried about the game pacing after the "Lucy" open dev we were able to play. This demo did not give us a very good depiction (I hope) of what to expect for industry numbers, population numbers, AI aggression (lack thereof), or overall game pace for how technology will flow. I was hoping the demo was just to iterate to us game mechanics and overview but we haven't ever been told, shown, or able to experience anything else other than the itty bitty bite size open devs prior to "Lucy". Please tell me we will be shown what the "real" game flow will be like / options to adjust it and if the AI will indeed threaten us or why they will when they do as compared to the absolute simcity experience I had with opendev "Lucy" where I never was at war for any reason while dominating on the score board without any chance for another AI to catch up.

I apologize for being direct on the matters that I have indicated above but I really want this game to work and 4x to be revitalized in the civ-like formula because Firaxis has gone extremely down hill for me but I want to engross myself completely in a new 4x IP, to which I have always largely liked and appreciated the endless games series. Lack of communication on these core mechanics or a demo that gives us a more complete picture (again assuming "Lucy" wasn't) of the game flow is really making me nervous for launch and I truly hope my fears are just silly. Humankind is supposed to be the apex game this studio has been working towards so why aren't we engulfed in it's confidence? If it's to be rivaling a big IP like Civilization shouldn't there be more of a realization of the kind of launch that is needed to accomplish this? Where's the beef!!!

Does anyone else share my feelings or am I just expecting too much somehow?

P.S.

Show us the beef.

I agree with you completely. What you write here is exactly what i was thinking about the game after Lucy Opendev.

You’re definitely not alone.   I’ve wanted to make a post asking if the development of the game is going ok, for the past week.

The last time Amplitude gave us an update on development was Humankind day, way back in January, when they were talking about wanting to have one or possibly even two more opendevs.   They were also talking about revealing the rest of the cultures “soon.”  Since then, they’ve been silent except for the occasional trailer and twitter post.  While these were enjoyable, they revealed very little tangible information.  I think this lack of news is why almost every post on Reddit this week can be summarized as, “Question: Has the game been delayed?”  “Answer:  They haven’t told us yet.

Edit:

As for AI aggressiveness, I personally liked that the AI didn’t just jump into wars, without thought, since wars are huge investments that require lots of planning.  I also liked that they didn’t end alliances because you were doing well.  That’s something I’ve always hated in games.  I do, however, wish the warmonger AI ‘Vlad,’ I think, would have been more aggressive than he was in Lucy.

I can certainly attest to this as... yeah "warmonger" ended up accepting the fact that I never allowed trade with him and boxed him in. I really worry that something is a bit off for launch than it should... I'll maintain high hopes but this seems to be showing a trend of worry with nothing being done to silence it. If the game needs to be delayed I hope they do it, despite it being a bummer to have to wait more.

A couple of things to bear in mind here:

1) There was a bug in Lucy that meant players would often accidentally be playing on "easy" difficulty after selecting serious. And I think there will probably be several harder difficulty settings than Serious in the final game anyway, as there are several difficulty settings above this in the Endless games iirc?

2) The devs have said that they've taken the comments about game pacing on board and have been looking at ways to slow it down. They've also said that other systems like population growth and military strength are being reworked based on feedback.

I share the opinions of others here that the game is looking like it's almost certainly going to be delayed. But I'm glad, honestly - I get the feeling that the feedback on the Lucy OpenDev has given them a lot to do on the game to make it as good as it can be. If they didn't do any of this they could have ended up rushing out a poorly designed/balanced/unfinished product but I imagine that won't be the case now.

Let's hope they do come out and say something soon, I know I saw that they took this feedback months back but if this was to be the actual pacing and they just got it wrong... well that aien't good lol. I would say they weren't even close in the Lucy demo, but hey we shall see when they next come to give us a heads up.

Meanwhile Sublustris be trollin' yall lol.

I feel kryton24 even I cant wait to get the hands on this title , but our enthusiasm is un-parallel to the pressure of competing against the legendary Sid meier's CIV series, DEVs deserves all the time - from maintaining the anticipation it has created to the delivery of final product.

If I'm not mistaken, these sort of released builds (such as Lucy) are likely a few iterations old from what devs are currently working with. They likely got a Lucy build ready for OpenDev long before it was ever released recently and have been working ahead for quite some time. If you have a lot of concerns based on Lucy, I wouldn't let it overly concern you - who knows where they are at with things now.

Who knows indeed, the origin of my fears and purpose of the post lol. Like I said before, and it looks like some agree, we've been pretty patient and I still hope for the best but it's time they delay the release or do something to show us the launch is on track and beefy.

I am hopeful for the game. But if they announce a delay will I just smile :)
Honestly, for me I am more worried that they WON'T announce a delay because it makes it seem (to me) as if they maybe think they need to hurry the game out?
If that makes any sense?

On the bright side I think developers and publishers alike recently have seen how it might be the inverse, recently anyway in the game industry after how bad Cyberpunk launched. I'd like to hope anyway at any rate.... lol some publishers especially don't seem to ever care.

This all being said and my post aside, I'm still hopeful myself as I have never been done wrong so far from Amplitude that's why I stated my worries as the closer to release it's not feeling exciting it's feeling awkward. The way they have even put the game up on steam is awkward too with only digital deluxe available.. until after launch LOL. Look, I still bought it as I want to support Amplitude but it's still logical to raise that this isn't passing the sniff test.

Publisher isn't willing to pay their bills forever without any revenue. That's why preorders are up already. Might I remind you, that publicly game was already delayed at least once.

As for Cyberpunk, preorders alone covered all production and marketing costs, and even after that game didn't left Steam's top-10 sellers for 10 consecutive weeks. Say what you want about game state upon release, you can't deny that financially they made astonishing result, and that's what matters for publisher. Business is business.

In case of Amplitude, perhaps preorders were sufficient to allow them to have another delay.

Well ... I mean, I pleinly support amplitude but what you apposed isn't really great either.

So we're at a point where video games industry can, and its mainstream now, postpone a game multi times, knowing from a long time ago the real final date, just to tease, to gain marketing points, to receive money form pre purchase ?

I have many interrogations about that :

- 1 the most teased person are the ones who are frustrated the most.
- 2 a launch date is disposed, people are happy with that and support the last months of developments and pay, but are the one bambloozed with the postpone date.
- 3 Posponments, open dev, become a way to tease. If they did not release Lucy Open dev but instead HK in full last semester, would the marketing be the same ?

All the video game system is confronted with this issue today, i don't blame Amplitude, I'm just utterly surpised by the same responses over and over and over by people : "yeah take your time, it's okay to be teased for basically money, we don't want cyberpunk again (lol)." Guys, cyberpunk should be a legal case and CDP should pay heavy for such false advertising.

So no, i will not be happy if its delayed, no i will not just wish they take their time to polish a game teased for 3 years, and yes i will be disappointed with the video game industry once again.

Sorry for this little anger crisis, it's not aimed at anyone here, Humankind will be the best 4x ever, Lucy was allready great, Mistakes are okay, Civ V and VI were not perfect at launch, so was Witcher 3 and Skyrim. no one will be mad if mongols are a beast the first months of the game. It was just a more "political" point of view. This industry is diving far into the worst of capitalism. Go Amplitude, be confident, we are with you and not against you.

This doesn't really seem to make sense, I'll be honest? You're assuming that studios who delay games are just teasing, they know the real release date. That doesn't seem to make much sense, pretty much all cases I know where a game was delayed the delay was unforeseen, not something planned to make money. (In fact why would they do that  considering all the hassle that happens when you have to delay a game, like talking to distributors and changing the marketing). Especially since it doesn't get them any money. Sure, people prepurchase in the meantime, but that is money they won't see after development is done, overall it's roughly the same amount.

Delaying a game is a lot of bad press and loss of hype for little monetary value, why would they do it on purpose?

How's everyone enjoying the preorder tech poster? Man, I'm so jealous. Does it fold and unfold?
