Take a look at Cyberpunk: why on earth can they release their updates on ALL platforms almost simultaneously and even bring their DLC to Stadia and why is it so extremily HARD for Amplitude?

Probably not the best comparison given how Cyberpunk's console launch went...

A colossal trainwreck getting more support on stadia than humankind is a good comparison, actually.
It's more believable that CDPR would cut Stadia after that launch than it is to believe that amplitude would cut Stadia support after theirs.

And yet, here we are.

Yes, that's exactly what I meant. You would think Cyberpunk wouldn't care about the Stadia version since the player base is small (they even said in an interview the amount of players is neglectable in comparison to others). But no. At the beginning Stadia updates might be 2 to 4 week later, but after a few months it was completely on par.

CDPR didn't have to care like Amplitude, yet they did. CP2077 was a mess but CDPR pulled through.

Now look at Amplitude and their porting company. Why don't they care?

I am commenting in this forum, I contacted Amplitude, SEGA AND Google (Stadia) and all three are doing the same: point at others:

  • Google Stadia: you have to ask the developer.
  • SEGA: you need to talk to Amplitude.
  • Amplitude: the porting company is lacking behind. (don't know the right way to say it, but you get me)

I don't know who the porting company is, but apparently these companies don't care about us. That's clear.

The most annoying thing is that because of these update issues I stopped playing the game and that makes me part of the problem as well. I want to love the game and play the heck out of it, but the lack of updates and communication killed the fun for me. And it's even the only (4x) strategy game on the platform lol, making it even more sad because strategy are the most fun to play ( if you ask me).

So, it seems the blame lies with the porting company. But earlier this year at the Google for Games Developer Summit, the Low Change Porting initiative was announced which made porting games to Stadia faster and require less engineering costs. It was supposed to remove as many hurdles as possible and make life easier for developers, allowing them to port games (and updates, I would assume) to Stadia in a matter of weeks. WEEKS - not MONTHS. Not NEVER.

What, exactly, is the hold up with these updates?!

Hola!
We understand your frustration with all these situations, specially after seeing the logo on the recent trailer. This is not something we don’t care or similar, we are working with our partner to deliver the content as soon as possible. With these I can confirm you that the content will arrive at one point, and we would love to tell you a specific date, but unfortunately it is something we cannot do.

Thank you. I have been holding off of playing more Humankind for so, so long because of this.

Same here. This game was my Civilization replacement until I became disillusioned by the lack of updates. It had such an opportunity to be a fantastic 4x hit on Stadia but I feel that's been largely squandered so far. When those updates to show up, I'll fire it up again.

Thank you. To be clear: two months ago we were told the next patch should arrive alongside the console release, which is November 4... has this changed?

In short the service is shutting down mid-January 2023 and games bought from the Stadia store will be refunded (this is coming from Google's annoucement). Here is the relevant part from the annoucement:

We’re grateful to the dedicated Stadia players that have been with us from the start. We will be refunding all Stadia hardware purchases made through the Google Store, and all game and add-on content purchases made through the Stadia store. Players will continue to have access to their games library and play through January 18, 2023 so they can complete final play sessions. We expect to have the majority of refunds completed by mid-January, 2023. We have more details for players on this process on our Help Center.

The Stadia shutdown is not surprising.  Their business model was ill-conceived, they didn't seem very dedicated to the service, they had shut down their in-house studio and had lots of staff departures, then they signaled a pivot, then there was the rumor that it would shut down at the end of Summer 2022, etc.  What I will say is that Google surprisingly did the right thing by offering refunds on everything.  I was definitely not expecting that.  So I guess it will work out for everyone involved: Google gets to cut an under-performing service, players get their money back, devs are freed from the hassle that is Stadia support, and gaming in general is saved from a "streaming-only is the future" dystopia (for now at least).

One short question about the Stadia Closure:

I would like to be able to regain the pre-order bonuses (from my purchase on Stadia) on the Steam edition.

Is there any way to be able to re-gain access to that content?
