Bah that sucks. If I had known this I wouldn't have bought DOTE. It's a frustrating game, and I've already had enough of it.

Agreed, the wording on the Steam store page could have been better. They probably tried to keep things short, but a "Be the first to play as the Vaulters in Endless Space" would have been better.

Well from the Dev Blog:

"Some of our community members seem to be confused about the Vaulters and their availability. We would like to inform you, as mentioned previously in the DotE FAQ, that the Vaulters will be available as a free DLC when DotE is released (no exact date yet unfortunately!) so everybody can enjoy them!"

Been having fun with the vaulters. I really enjoy my teleporting fleet. The Sherydan declared war on me. I snuck a colonyship past them, founded a colony on the other side of their empire and build an Aperture and now my fleet can circumvent the worm hole choke point. Fun times

Which makes me wonder why they didn't write "exclusive access to The Vaulters in Endless Space until DotE is released".

If you only look at steam (not being aware of the blogs like 95% of all their costumers), Amplitude is lying to the people getting DotE: FE and they're pissing off people playing ES who have no interest in DotE.

Well, if there was a need for money, why would amplitude give a 50% off coupon to ES gold with the founder pack? that Coupon (yes, I know there has been an issue with people getting the coupon, so this may not be a true analysis) is worth $17 50, which is more than the cost of the Founder Pack. And yes I do realize that the coupon is pretty much worthless to players that already on ES gold, but giving it to your buddy still results in a loss of money for Amplitude, right? thats what has me confused.

If there is a 75% off winter sale around the corner for christmas, it is not even a relative loss and everyone who buys is a win in any case, but I agree that I do not understand the logic behind this, either.

And not that I am trying to argue, but ES and DotE still technically are in the same genre of Strategy (according to Steam). And it isn't necessarily unrelated. If the Vaulters were the ones transporting prisoners to Auriga, it makes sense to include them with the founder pack since they *may* serve as the link between the two games. But yeah, feel free to rip that argument apart with your VIP insights lol I still acknowledge that you are more in the loop than I.

Actually between the three games. Still, "strategy" is a very wide area. A tower defense x roguelike mix is not a turn based strategy, nor would it be a real time strategy game. I don't expect all turn based strategy lovers who bought ES to like roguelikes...

I honestly don't see why one should be mad about this! Of course the Vaulters will be playable by non Dungeons-buyers as well. It's just that Endless Space-Gamers won't have to extra-buy the DLC when they already bought Dungeon of the Endless. Of course you won't have to buy Dungeon of the Endless just to get the Vaulters. If you have been with Amplitude from the first minute, you should know that. smiley: alder

Honestly, I think that is a great point. It may just be that the people who help Amp test DotE alpha get rewarded by getting early access to the new endless space faction as well. As you say, not necessarily exclusive access, but early access. So The Vaulters may become available through DLC to everyone after DotE early access ends. *hopefully*

So at this point I'm just confused why they didn't give a definitive yes or no that The Vaulters would become available after early access.

Fully agreed. If it was another strategy game then maaaybe you could justify it but having the Vaulters as completely exclusive to people who drop $15-$20 for a game of a completely different genre seems quite unfair to fans of the series. I'd be perfectly ok with dropping some money to get the Vaulters because I didn't buy Dungeons of the Endless, but giving Endless Space players no way of unlocking the full game without paying so much money is quite frankly, kind of stupid.

I am disappointed as well. I understand the motivation of cross-selling but in my opinion this should be limited to meta-game (achievements, badges, etc.) or style aspects (unique colors, insignias, etc.).

I truly hope though that Amplitude will provide another mean to access the vaulters (at a later point ?!).

Ditto, disappointed. smiley: frown

It's just a way to reward the fans and make them crazy for the new game! And it worked. I CAN'T STOP playing Dungeon of the Endless!!!! oO'

Just don't panic all the time, it's the same in with most games and DLCs. First ask then, get pi**ed. lol

Yea pretty sure did, i got the 50% off endless space and disharmony Coupons and they said they were only for the Founders package,

either way this whole thing is BS having to Buy a game to get a faction for another game, they should of had a seperate DLC for that faction, i guess ill not be buying any more Amplitude games either wich is a shame cause i kinda was looking forward to there next 4x but if this is how they handle things ill pass on it

While i do agree that you should be able to get the Vaulters as DLC for ES if you desire and simply leave it as a "added bonus" for purchasing DoTE to get them for free - same thought on EL; your judgement however is very heavy, to completely stop supporting Amplitude, the Sheridan had a similar deal as it was only for ES Emperor holders but it was linked to ES much clearer. In fact I think they could make many people happier if they just allowed people to buy those exclusive DLC's separate from their other titles - its a rather simple, elegant solution for a "big" problem.

I don't think making such a sharp decision based on this one example is correct. Whilst I agree selling a faction for a game with another game is far from elegant, this does not mean that the games themselves are bad.

As for not having acces to the faction, I suggest you contact Stéphanie.

To be honest, this is the first time I am disappointed with the attitude / approach of Amplitude. I was an early backer of Endless Space, paid the Disharmony expansion without grumbling. But this seems to me unfair. I guess the only way I, personally, can address this is by keeping my wallet shut in the future for Amplitude's products. No hard feelings though, I had good time with their (modded) product.

I think a little bit of communication from Amplitude on the Vaulters faction and the link with DotE & ES will go a long way in settling ES fans expectations and unhappiness.

I agree with Codename_Veers and believe the faction will probably be released as a DLC for ES. However like everyone here it is an assumption and I'll wait to compliment or complain to Amplitude when I have an answer.

Let's hope that Amplitude do release an explanation soon. They are generally good at communication. Not this time, but generally.

Well, I too am a bit irritated by the fact they are (currently) only for DotE-Founders - I hope that they will be made accessible with a DLC, for those who don't play DotE, later.

But until DotE is finished, many things can change smiley: stickouttongue

The best thing about the The Vaulters is that they are unaffected by expansion disapproval lol

Im not sure which would PO people worse, this or a simple reskin? Anyway, I think it may have been a better idea to release a joint DLC for $5 or something. that way people would be encouraged to buy DotE so they could get the most of the dlc, but they wouldn't have to do it.

Meh, I'm actually perfectly fine with the cross promotion and welcome it!

However, I'm still waiting for Amplitude to fix diplomacy and give it more personality/soul. If I have to pay for another expansion to see that, I will.

Please.

Anyway, I digress. I don't see the complaint. The race is thematic with the new release. It's only $14.99 for the new game and all the new stuff. I see no problems here. But I know people will complain about anything and everything...
